I spent time thinking about the things I wanted to change in early January and after some time with my own thoughts (usually in the shower because it’s quiet there and I don’t have children near me when I get ready in the mornings haha), I decided to create what I call a ‘monthly meeting’ with my husband. If you read my last post: Goals For 2019!, you’ll know that things weren’t going the way I had wanted them to during fall, and I knew I needed to make some changes. So on every 1st-ish of the month, my husband and I have now decided to carve out time in our calendars to sit down together, have a monthly meeting and create a plan for that upcoming month. I had shared a post on my IG account right when the new year started, about making 2019 the year of self-care for me. After sharing that post, I felt strongly about wanting to elaborate on that topic, to make sure I was clear on what I had meant. I put it on the back burner for a couple weeks, talking myself out of writing it many times. But, on January 20, 2019, I had the privilege of attending the Mad About Style ambassador brunch, where the topic being presented by the guest speaker, Jessica Janzen, was all about “goals for 2019”! Coincidence? I KNOW not! I am a big believer that we have nudges on our heart to do things and Jessica appears to share a very similar mindset. I also believe that connections in life between people occur in various forms to help form our paths. Hearing her speak was the kick in the pants I needed to commit to my original thought: write out my goals for 2019 in more detail; something I had clearly been putting off. I had been feeling compelled to not only share my goals in more detail, but also the WHY behind them, as I believe that if I/my husband are dealing with these things, that other couples are likely going through the same thing.
I had A LOT of questions DM’d to me on Instagram while we were away on our winter vacation to Hawaii this year. The majority of them were associated with travelling with children so I figured instead of just sharing some pictures of our trip on the blog I would open this post up on Instagram to a Q&A from you guys. I’ve rounded up the 10 most common questions that I was asked and combined some of the similar ones together to make things a bit easier.
One of the not-so-great things we experienced last time when we went to Hawaii with our daughter who was 19 months old at the time, is that we spent a lot of our afternoons stuck in our hotel room. During her naps, we felt confined to our hotel room’s balcony, trapped and unable to move about freely while she was sleeping. Continue reading
After the many head colds, flus and two weeks of influenza that we experienced in both our kids last winter, keeping my kids healthy and as free from viruses as possible is my ultimate goal this year, even more so than ever! Continue reading
I have consistently posted monthly updates for my kids on the blog and in every one of them I always speak about my children’s sleep habits. It seems that after each one I post, I always get someone asking a question about how my babes sleep so well, starting at such an early age. I’ve shared my experiences openly when people have inquired but I’ve never posted my thoughts, choices and behaviors publicly on the blog. The reason being, is because I know sleep, just like breastfeeding, has a lot of opinions associated with it. Continue reading
I didn’t really have a theme in mind early on for my son’s first birthday party and was open to any ideas that crossed my path. I had originally thought about doing a cars theme, not the movie but just the whole concept of the vehicle because he LOVES wheels and toy cars but I talked myself out of it knowing he’d probably enjoy this theme when he got a bit older. I stumbled upon the dollar section at Target in early summer and it was full of camping decor items. I was instantly sold! They were so cute and the value for the items made it worth it, since I didn’t have to spend tons to get a bunch of stuff. My daughter has also been big on playing “camping” in our family room lately so I figured it would also be fun for her!
12 months came and went on October 21 and I’m still in shock! October was a busy month for me planning this guy’s first birthday, going back to work and adjusting to new schedules for our family. Add in Halloween and my husband’s birthday at the end of the month and I don’t really know what happened. It’s all been a blur! I figured I better get this monthly update (and last one I might add) written before I completely forget what happened during month 11.
Our little big guy (as his sister calls him) has been growing like a weed since he came out of me. He was bigger at birth than sissy was and hasn’t slowed down since; they are currently only four pounds apart! Since Ever was a bigger baby, we very quickly made the switch from our infant car seat into a “big boy” car seat. If we didn’t already own an infant bucket seat from our daughter, it probably wouldn’t have made any sense to get one for our son as we barely used it. When I first bought our bucket seat I didn’t even realize that you could get car seats which are made to grow with your babe, all the way from infancy to childhood. The Safety 1st Grow & Go Air 3-in-1 Car Seat is just that. Continue reading
