Kitchen Refresh Reveal

Just in time for the new year we made a refresh to our kitchen area! If you read my previous post on our kitchen lighting refresh ideas, you’ll know that I wanted to swap out my pendant lights for something larger than what we already had. I also really wanted to get some new counter stools that were more child friendly!

I turned to Wayfair for lighting ideas and decided to pick these brass gold globe style lights, which were number two in my previous idea post! I also really liked the lantern style and almost went with it instead, but then quickly decided I wanted to try something a little less common. I’ve seen that style around for a couple years, and although I love it, I wanted something a bit more fresh! I loved the globe style in Monika Hibbs’ old kitchen see here, and I also loved the colour of gold that Jillian Harris has in hers, seen here, so I decided to combine these two styles and pick this one! The gold is a beautiful brass colour, not too yellow gold and not too orange. It’s the perfect warm shade. I was nervous when they were first being hung, like with any change I ever make, haha, but once they were both up and paired with my new stools, I loved the new, overall look!

I picked these outdoor counter stools by Safavieh from Wayfair in a grey and white pattern. These stools remind me of the Riveria collection by Serena and Lily, but they cost much less than those, which is nice for us Canadians who have to deal with shipping costs and border fees! Our walls are Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore, which have a greige undertone, and we have grey veining in our countertops, so I felt the grey was a good match. The stools are also available in all white or in a navy and white pattern. I really liked the navy ones, but since I went a bit more “wild” with my pendant colour choice, I decided to play it safer in my stool colour choice. If I would have picked a chrome pendant, I probably would have done a pop of colour with the navy stool. The main reasons I picked these stools were because 1) they have backs (for safety and support), 2) are light in weight, which makes them easy to move for the kids when they want to push one up to the counter to cook, but mostly 3) because they are SUPER easy to clean! I knew that #3 had to be the most important part of my selection process, because a cloth stool would cause waaaaaaay too much stress and never be used the way it should be in a kitchen with young kids! I am very happy with my choice! These stools wipe down very easily and are so comfortable to sit on (I’m sitting in one right now ;)).

Changing out these pieces in our kitchen made for such a large difference in the space! I found that the many shades of silver, which we had before in both our pendant lights and bar stools, didn’t offer enough dimension. This new pop of brassy gold, mixed with a patterned stool is now giving our space a refresh with a little visual interest!

Did you all guess which light I was going to pick? 🙂 Tell me what you think about the changes below!

Thank you to Wayfair for gifting me with some pieces for this space. All ideas, opinions, furniture choices, pictures and content are my own.
