9 Month Update

9 months in and 9 months out! Always feels so much faster once they are in the outside world compared to when they were hanging out in our bellies, doesn’t it? Hard to imagine these days what life was like with just one babe running around. Everton is on the move: crawling, pulling to stand and starting to balance on his own without holding onto things. He has also discovered very quickly how to walk around by pushing stools, strollers, shopping carts and walker toys! He loves to climb the stairs and tries so hard to keep up with his sister!

Feeding wise, I cut out the supper breastfeeding session a day after he turned 8 months old. He was eating so well during that time and not looking for anything else so it was an easy one to remove. We also started to increase his supper foods with our meals and decrease the amount of puree he was getting. He didn’t love this and was still looking for purees (read: screaming at the top of his lungs) so we continued to include some at the end of his supper meal which satisfied him. Just before 9 months he finally seemed happy with only our food and since then the use of purees during supper has greatly declined. Just before he turned 9 months I also cut out the 2 pm afternoon breastfeeding session. He once again never seemed to look for it and almost always spit up his contents shortly after, which made me think he didn’t need it anymore. Once I cut it out, he no longer spit up during that time. I am still breastfeeding in the morning and before bed. He also receives breast milk in his rice cereal in the later morning for a total of three sessions per day.

We had his 9 month appointment with the doctor and he weighs 23 pounds,  which is only 5 pounds off from his sister’s current weight! He is in the 75th percentile for weight and 50th percentile for length.

This past month brought on three more teeth! A random, third bottom tooth on his right side of his mouth popped up as well as his top two teeth. We now have a total of five teeth. Drooling has dramatically decreased since their arrival and I don’t see anymore on the horizon.

Sleep still remains great; no regressions for our boy! We put him to bed later as we are out and about during the long summer days and he wakes up a little later as well. He typically sleeps from 9 pm to about 8-8:30 am now. He still naps around 10:30 am -11:00 am and once again sleeps anywhere from an hour and a half to three hours. His second nap around 4:00 pm has been getting more difficult. He still appears tired, rubbing his eyes and yawning but he tends to fight this nap now when we put him down. After about 15 mins of standing, talking and crying he finally falls asleep for about 45 minutes.

He still enjoys being outdoors and will happily crawl around in the grass behind his sister. He loves water and splashing around and since being able to pull to stand and cruise he is enjoying the water table quite a bit! Playtime in the morning inside has become more interesting as he explores the decor items in our house haha. His favourite things right now are watching his sister make her stuffed bunny hop up and down quickly and watching her run around in circles in his room before bed (when he’s supposed to be nursing). She makes him so happy and we love watching their bond grow. This is the first month he’s really showing interest in her toys and her tolerance is lessening for it. It should be interesting to see what happens as he gets older, bigger and is able to hold his own!

Happy 9 months baby brother!
