It’s no surprise that I love taking photos of Miss Lace, hence my love for Instagram! I’m sure many other moms can relate in that it seems like we are always the ones behind the camera snapping the shots and therefore are rarely in the photos ourselves. My hubby is a great sport and from time to time we will set aside a few minutes to get some mother and daughter photos in but if he’s behind the camera it means he’s not in our photos either! So it seems like there’s always someone “missing” from our shots.

My brother was recently in town just before Emsley’s first birthday and I figured it was a good opportunity to get a few family photos in. I felt it was important to document this time being that Emsley was just about to turn one. I am also guilty of not updating our gallery wall over the past year to reflect our new family of three so this was a great excuse to get a few up to date shots to add in.

When picking our outfits for the photoshoot I wanted the colours to compliment each other without everyone being too “matchy matchy”. I knew we would be taking these shots outside and I really wanted the vivid colours of nature to stand out. I chose more neutral colours for our outfits so they didn’t compete with the colours of nature. I also specifically avoided dressing us in any hues of green so we wouldn’t blend into the scenery either. Since Ems is always the star of the show I picked out her outfit first. I then matched my outfit to hers by picking a softer colour in a blush tone and finally a stronger colour for my husband so there was some contrast between us girls and him.
