I was tempted to purchase age blocks from Indigo for $45.00 to document Emsley’s growth this upcoming year but instead decided to get crafty and make my own as I didn’t love the colors being sold and already had a lot of the necessary supplies! Also, who doesn’t like to get crafty?!

Here’s what was needed:

• 1 ¾” min. width wood, 10″ in length (saw required to cut to sizes)
• Sandpaper
• White paint
• Paint brush or sponge
• Number/letter stickers – 2 packs
• Mod Podge (Matte finish)

My amazing husband had just finished our staircase spindles and railing the week before our pumpkin arrived (Just in time I might add!) so we happened to have extra wood spindles lying around. And if you have seen our house or pictures of it, you’d might guess that we also have plenty of extra white paint! I asked the hubby to cut two small blocks for me an inch and three quarters in length to match the width of them, in order to make a perfect square. I then asked him to cut another block 6 inches in length.

Once the blocks were cut, they required sanding to smooth out the edges. After sanding, they were painted with 2 coats of white paint.

After letting the blocks dry, I put gold number stickers on the two smaller blocks and spelt out the words “days”, “weeks”, “months” and “year” with the letter stickers on the one larger block. The numbers needed for block one were 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the numbers needed for block two were 0, 1, 6, 7, 8, 9. After placing the stickers, I used a sponge to apply Mod Podge over the stickers to keep them from lifting as well as to dull their sheen so they would photograph better.

FYI: If you do not happen to have extra wood lying around like I did, Michaels also sells already cut and sanded wood blocks that would work for this project.

My finished product may not look as professional as the Indigo ones but they cost a fraction of the price (under 10 dollars!), are the perfect colour combo and had a lot of love put into them!
